Matilda is one of the first hedgehogs we took into the rescue centre. She
had been living as a family pet, living with the three family cats. She was sharing their food and I'm told she was also sleeping
in their beds. The carers were about to move house and felt that they could no longer look after her. It was obvious that
she had been allowed to roam the house, as she wasn't scared of any noise or movement. We have been gradually withdrawing
the amount of attention she gets, as if she is ever to be returned to the wild she mustn't be so trusting and reliant on household
comforts. She is now happy to build a nest out of paper, leaves and straw, which is great progress. We are hoping to release
her next year if her progression continues.
